Aloe maculata, often called "soap aloe", heavily speckled and forms large rosettes.  Generally with aloes it's necessary to protect them from all frosts.  At Neela Nurseries, however, aloe maculata has survived frosty nights, including an unplanned three nights of sub-freezing temperatures.  This plant survived about twenty degrees Fahrenheit, and after appeared dead for a while.  Yet it came back to life over two to three weeks.  In western Washington and Oregon, aloe maculata likes to be outdoors most of the year.  Rain protection a good idea during late fall, winter, and cooler wetter spring months.  With good light, draining, fresh air and breezes, this aloe may flower in a three-gallon container or greater.  Generally no fertilizing necessary.  Replenish or change out potting media once every year or two.  Freely off-setting.  An easy to grow aloe and a real winner so far for us!
